非常に恐ろしいことや強いショックを感じさせるように人を怖がらせること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

深刻な恐怖やショックの時に使う強い表現。「be horrified by/at」のように受け身で使われることが多い。同族語：horrifying（形）、horror（名）。些細な怖さには使わない。
