Pressionar o pedal do acelerador de um veículo para o fazer andar mais rápido. Também pode ser usado de forma figurada para acelerar um processo ou atividade.

Expressão informal usada ao conduzir veículos ou de forma figurada (em projetos ou tarefas). Em português de Portugal diz-se "carregar no acelerador". Não se trata de bater, mas sim pressionar o pedal com o pé.
