직접적으로 말하지 않고 어떤 사실이나 생각을 간접적으로 드러내는 것.

공식·비공식 모두에서 사용되며 추상적인 내용이나 간접적으로 드러내고 싶은 상황에 적합하다. 보통 추상 명사와 함께 쓰인다.

He tried to hint at the answer without saying it.

그는 답을 말하지 않고 **시사하려고** 했다.

The teacher hinted at a test next week.
