状況から最も多くの利益を得たり、他の人より有利な立場になること。しばしば勝つ、得をするという意味でも使われる。

主にカジュアルやセミフォーマルな場面で使われ、競争や関係、ビジネスで有利な時によく使われます。「make the best of」とは意味が違います。「have the best of both worlds」にも使われます。
