階段やスロープの側に設置されていて、安全に歩くためにつかまる長い棒状のもの。

主に階段やスロープ、バルコニーなど安全のために使われます。「handrail を持つ」は安全の呼びかけでよく使われます。装飾用の柵には通常使いません。
