誰かの好意や信頼を得て、その人に認められている状態を表します。特に努力してその信頼を取り戻す場合によく使います。

「win someone's good graces」は上司や先生など目上の人の信頼を取り戻すニュアンスがあります。カジュアルな友人関係にはあまり使いません。
