Aşırı stres, şok veya üzüntüyle duygusal veya zihinsel kontrolü kaybetmek. Bazen fiziksel olarak parçalanmak anlamında da kullanılır.

Günlük konuşmada sıkça kullanılır; genellikle duygusal çöküntülerde. Bazen fiziksel olarak parçalanmak için de kullanılır. 'She went to pieces' deyimi, duygusal anlamda dağılmayı anlatır.
