무언가의 앞쪽이나 정면, 또는 그 앞에 있는 영역을 뜻합니다. 전쟁이나 날씨 등에서 주요 활동이 일어나는 '전선'을 가리키기도 합니다.

'in front of'는 '~의 앞(에)'로 사용됩니다('in front of the house'=집 앞에). 'front door'(현관문), 'front page'(신문 1면) 등과 자주 쓰이며, 시간의 'before'나 신체의 'face'와는 구분해야 합니다.
