控える辞退する

Definition

自分が欲しいものや好きなことを、何らかの理由であえてしない、または持たないこと。

フォーマルな場面や文章で使われる。「控える」は「forgo dessert」のように欲しいけどやめる場合に適切。忘れる（忘れる）や許す（許す）とは違う意味。

I will forgo the cake because I am on a diet.
