누르거나 눌려서 평평하거나 얇아진 상태를 말합니다. 원래보다 높이나 두께가 줄어든 것을 나타냅니다.

주로 사물에 쓰이지만, 조직 구조를 설명할 때도 쓸 수 있습니다('평평해진 조직'). '평평한(flat)'과 달리 눌려서 변형된 상태임을 나타냅니다.

The box was flattened for recycling.
