রান্না, গুছানো, বা নির্দেশনার ক্ষেত্রে হাত বা যন্ত্র দিয়ে ঢেলে সমতল করতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। যেমন 'flatten down the dough'। 'Flatten' কেবল সমান করলেও, 'down' নিচের দিকে চাপার অর্থ যোগ করে।
