Definition

「フランクス」は主に人や動物の体の横側、または集団や軍隊の側面部分を指します。一般的なものの側面を表す場合もあります。

解剖学で「動物のわき腹」、軍事用語で「両側から攻撃する」などによく使われます。「flank steak」や「plank」とは異なります。複数形で使われるのが一般的です。

The cat was lying on its flanks in the sun.
