겁이나 당황스러움, 또는 균형을 잃을 때 팔이나 몸을 빠르고 통제 없이 움직이는 것.

주로 팔, 다리 등 팔다리가 통제되지 않고 계속 움직이는 상황에서 쓰임. 공포, 당황, 미숙함의 뉘앙스가 있음. 비유적으로도 사용 가능.
