Definition

銃や他の武器で誰かや何かに発砲すること。攻撃を始めるときによく使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に軍事や警察、暴力的な状況で使われます。'fire on the enemy'のように目的語を取ります。火をつける、解雇する意味では使いません。

Examples

The soldiers fire on the enemy.

兵士たちは敵に**発砲する**。

Do not fire on unarmed people.

非武装の人に**発砲しないで**ください。

The police did not fire on the suspect.
