Uma estrutura fina semelhante a um fio; geralmente refere-se a material vegetal ou sintético usado para fazer tecidos, ou à parte dos alimentos que ajuda na digestão.

Muito usada em saúde e nutrição: 'dietary fiber' é a parte vegetal dos alimentos que o corpo não digere. Em materiais, refere-se a fios de têxteis. O inglês britânico utiliza 'fibre'. Não confundir com 'fio' (costura).
