누군가나 어떤 것을 공개적으로 또는 매우 열정적으로 높이 칭찬하는 것.

격식 있는 문장이나 문학적 표현에 많이 쓰임. 'extolling the virtues/benefits of', 'extolling someone's achievements'와 같이 사용되며, 가볍게 칭찬할 때는 어울리지 않음.
