非常に優れていて、他より抜きん出ている状態や質。人や成果などの素晴らしさに使います。

フォーマルな文脈（学校、ビジネス、自己啓発）でよく使われます。物ではなく人や行動、業績などに使います。「strive for excellence」は高い基準を目指すという意味です。
