Definition

একটি খাড়া বা লম্বা ঢাল যা দুটি ভিন্ন উচ্চতার স্থলভাগকে আলাদা করে; সাধারণত ক্ষয় বা ভূপৃষ্ঠের পরিবর্তনের ফলে তৈরি হয়।

এই শব্দটি ভূগোল ও ভূতত্ত্বে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণত খাড়া ঢাল যেটি হঠাৎ উচ্চতা পরিবর্তন ঘটায়, সেটিকে বোঝায়। 'cliff' বা 'slope' শব্দের সাথে না মেলানোর চেষ্টা করুন; 'escarpment' বেশি বড় এবং বিস্তৃত জমি কাঠামোর জন্য।
