'Drunkard' औपचारिक या पुराना शब्द है और अक्सर नकारात्मक अर्थ में आता है। आजकल 'alcoholic' या 'heavy drinker' ज्यादा सामान्य हैं। यह केवल कभी-कभी शराब पीने वाले पर नहीं, बल्कि आदतन अधिक पीने वाले पर लागू होता है।
