كصفة، تعني 'double' ضعفين أو شيء يحتوي على جزئين متساويين. كفعل، تعني جعل الشيء يصبح ضعف ما كان عليه.

تستخدم 'double' كصفة وفعل واسم. شائع في عبارات مثل 'double check' (مراجعة مرّتين)، 'on the double' (بسرعة). لا تخلط مع 'duplicate' التي تعني نسخ شيء بالضبط.
