ドアを開いたままにしたり、勝手に開閉しないようにするための道具です。重みのある物が一般的です。

一般的に小さくて重い物やくさび型が多いです。「ラバードアストッパー」など素材による呼び方もあります。比喩的に大きくて重い物（太い本やサンドイッチ）を表すこともあります。
