अधिकतर औपचारिक या वैज्ञानिक संदर्भ में, जैसे गैस, तरल, भीड़ या कणों के फैलने के लिए। खाने पर लगाने या अफवाहें फैलाने के लिए नहीं। अकसर वाक्य में क्रिया के रूप में पासिव रूप में आता है।
