突然または魔法のように物や人が消える、または物理的なものをデジタルなど非物質の形に変えること。

主にSFやファンタジー、魔法の文脈で使われる。普通の会話ではあまり使わず、デジタル化を比喩的に言うこともある（例：'dematerialize a document'＝書類を電子化する）。
