वह स्थिति जिसमें बहुत कम या बिल्कुल रोशनी नहीं होती, इसलिए देखना मुश्किल या असंभव हो जाता है। इसका प्रयोग रूपक अर्थ में उदासी, बुराई या उम्मीद की कमी के लिए भी होता है।
