여러 사람과 경쟁하여 상, 직위, 영예 등을 얻으려고 애쓰는 것.

'compete for'보다 격식을 갖춘 표현이며, 주로 'title', 'award', 'leadership' 등과 함께 쓰입니다. 일상적인 대화에서는 거의 쓰이지 않습니다.
