다른 사람이나 무언가보다 더 낫거나, 더 빠르거나, 더 성공하려고 노력하는 것. 주로 경쟁, 사업, 일상 상황에서 사용됨.

일상과 비즈니스 모두에 사용됨. 주로 누구와(무엇과) 경쟁하는지를 뒤에 붙여서 표현함. 'with'는 'against'보다 더 중립적이거나 협력적인 뉘앙스.
