公社指的是一羣人共同生活並共享資源的集體，也可以是某些國家的行政區劃，特別是法國。

'communes' 在英語中既可以表示共享生活的集體，也可以表示（法國、意大利等） 的行政區（市鎮）。與 'community' 不同，更正式或有組織性。歷史上中國「人民公社」就是一種 'commune'。
