何か特定のものを見つけるために、非常に注意深く探すこと。

主にカジュアルやややフォーマルな場面で使い、実際に探し物をしたり情報を徹底的に調べたりする文脈で用いる。'comb through'の形もよく使う。物理的な櫛で髪をとかす意味ではない。
