Definition

炭鉱とは、石炭を採掘する鉱山と、その周囲の建物や設備全体を指します。地下だけでなく、全体の施設を含みます。

英語の“colliery”は主にイギリスで使われ、やや古い響きがあります。“coal mine”がアメリカ英語で一般的です。炭鉱は敷地全体を指します。
