Definition

焼くときや暖をとるために使われる、炎が消えた後に赤く熱をもつ炭のかけらのことです。燃えた後に光っている炭を指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

通常は複数形で使い、赤く熱くなった炭を指します。「hot coals」「burning coals」「walk on coals」などの表現に用いられます。お絵描き用の木炭とは違います。
