यह शब्द औपचारिक या साहित्यिक संदर्भों में ज़्यादा होता है, और 'scold' या 'rebuke' से हल्का है। आमतौर पर 'for' के साथ आता है जैसे 'chide someone for...'. रोज़ाना बोलचाल में कम, ज़्यादातर लिखित या साहित्य में मिलता है।
