Có thể là: 1) Lấy bộ phận từ một thứ để dùng cho thứ khác; 2) Một sản phẩm mới khiến doanh số của sản phẩm cũ cùng công ty giảm đi.

Từ này thường được dùng trong kinh doanh, kỹ thuật. 'Cannibalize old machines' là lấy bộ phận; 'new product cannibalizes sales' chỉ mỗi sản phẩm mới làm giảm doanh số sản phẩm cũ. Không dùng theo nghĩa ‘ăn thịt’ thực sự.
