伝える（悪い知らせを慎重に）

Definition

相手が傷つかないように、特に悪い知らせをそっと伝えること。

主に悪い知らせを伝えるとき使う表現。'break it to someone'の形で用い、'tell'よりも丁寧で配慮ある印象を与える。良い知らせには使わない。

I don't know how to break it to him that he failed the test.

試験に落ちたことをどうやって彼に**伝えたら**いいかわからない。
