北アメリカ原産の小さな地上性の鳥で、「ボブホワイト」という特徴的な鳴き声で知られるウズラの一種です。

主に北米で使われ、バードウォッチングや動物観察の場面でよく登場します。鳴き声が名前の由来で、他のウズラには使いません。『ノーザン・ボブホワイト』とも呼ばれます。
