"Backbiting" es más formal que "gossip". Suele usarse para hablar de chismes dañinos en el trabajo, familia o comunidad. Se dice 'engage in backbiting'. Es negativo, no para bromas. Diferente de "gossip": implica malicia y hablar mal a espaldas.
