Principalmente um adjetivo técnico ou científico; usado em física, anatomia e engenharia ('axial', como 'carga axial', 'esqueleto axial'). Raro no uso quotidiano. Não confundir com 'lateral' (de lado). Muitas vezes contrasta com 'radial'.
