주로 업적이나 능력을 고려한 후에 공식적으로 상·명예·인정을 수여하다.

공식적·격식있는 상황에서 자주 쓰이며, 수동태(예: 'was awarded to')로 많이 사용됨. 뒤에는 수상자와 상 이름이 온다. 일상 물건에 대해 쓰지 않음.

The Nobel Prize was awarded to her for her research.
