何かに気づくこと、特に今まで気がつかなかったことに気づくこと；重要な事実や状況を認識すること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にフォーマルや文学的な文脈で使われ、日常会話ではあまり使われません。後ろに意識する対象が来ることが多いです（"awake to the danger" など）。『become aware of』に似ていますが、目覚めや新しい気づきのニュアンスがあります。
