「apothecary」の複数形で、昔の薬や薬草を調合・販売した人を指します。現代でいう「薬剤師」に相当しますが、主に歴史的な文脈で使います。

現代では使わず、歴史や古典文学で見かけます。今は「薬剤師」「薬局」などを使います。
