توقع حدوث شيء أو التطلع إليه غالبًا مع حماس أو استعداد.

يستخدم غالبًا في اللغة الرسمية أو المكتوبة، ويرتبط بالأحداث أو المشاعر: 'anticipating a response'، 'anticipating problems'. يفيد التجهز للمستقبل وليس الانتظار فقط. يختلف عن 'expecting' الذي يحمل معنى أكثر حيادية.
