Definition

কোনো কিছুর আগে যে বিষয় বা ঘটনা ঘটে, তাকে বলা হয় পূর্ববর্তী। ব্যাকরণে, কোনো সর্বনামের যে শব্দের দিকে নির্দেশ করা হয়, সেটিকে পূর্বরূপ বলে।

অফিসিয়াল বা শিক্ষাগত আলোচনায় বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়, বিশেষত ব্যাকরণ, দর্শন, যুক্তি এবং আইনে। দৈনন্দিন কথাবার্তায় সচরাচর ব্যবহৃত হয় না। 'precedent'-এর সঙ্গে গুলিয়ে ফেলবেন না।
