한 나라 또는 지역을 다른 나라나 주에 공식적으로 포함시키는 행위로, 주로 힘이나 합의에 의해 이루어진다.

'합병', '병합' 모두 공식적이고 정치, 법률, 역사에서 주로 사용됨. 기업 합병(merger)이나 파일 첨부(attachment)와는 다름.
