땅이나 건물이 서로 경계를 맞대거나, 붙어 있는 상태를 의미합니다. 주로 공식적인 상황에서 사용됩니다.

주로 법률, 건축, 지리 용어로 사용되며, 사람에겐 쓰이지 않습니다. 일상에서는 '옆에 있다' 등으로 대체합니다. '길과 맞닿다' 식으로 쓰입니다.
