Definition

特に投票や活動への参加などを、自分の意思で控えること。たいていは道徳的または個人的な理由で行う。

形式的な場や公式な状況（例：'abstain from voting'＝投票を控える）で使われ、通常は“〜から”とセットになります。日常的な回避には向いていません。

He decided to abstain from eating sweets during the month.
