非常に丁寧に掃除や手入れをして、ものを完璧にきれいに見せること。時には軍隊のような規律や細かい注意も指す。

少し古風で、ユーモラスや軍隊の文脈で使われやすい表現。外見のみにこだわるニュアンス。'all spit and polish'という形が一般的。人についてはあまり使わない。
