「現行犯で」とは、誰かが何か（多くは悪いことや秘密）をしているその瞬間に見つかった状態を指します。

「caught in the act」は「現行犯で捕まる」と訳され、悪いことや秘密을している瞬間に発見されるとき使います。単に進行中の動作にはあまり使いません。
