잠식하다 (소리를)들리지 않게 하다

Definition

한 소리가 더 크게 들려서 다른 소리가 들리지 않게 되는 것.

주로 소리, 목소리에 사용하며, 실제로 무언가를 물에 빠뜨리는 게 아니라 소리로 덮을 때 쓴다. 'drown out the music'처럼 사용.

Her laughter was so loud, it completely drowned out the music.

그녀의 웃음소리가 너무 커서 음악이 완전히 **들리지 않았다**.

You can try to drown out your worries with busy work, but they always come back.

바쁜 일로 걱정을 **잠식해도** 결국 다시 찾아온다.
