すでに良いものに、さらにちょっとした良いことや最後の仕上げが加わって完璧になること。

カジュアルな場面で使う表現。ケーキの「さくらんぼ」ではなく、仕上げや嬉しいおまけの比喩です。「the cherry on top」や「as a cherry on top」の形で使うことが多いです。
