아픔이나 불편함, 강한 감정 때문에 몸을 뒤틀거나 꼼지락거리는 움직임을 의미함.

문어체나 문학적 표현에서 주로 사용되며, 극심한 통증이나 감정을 강조할 때 사용됨. 'writhing in pain'과 같이 쓰임. 일상 대화에서는 드물게 사용.
