時間をかけて感情や状態（勇気、怒り、食欲など）を徐々に高めたり、努力して何かを作り出すこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

くだけた表現で、特に感情（'work up the courage', 'work up an appetite'）に使われます。人を興奮させる意味や医療では検査する意味も。
